Our Story
Six years ago, Angel Castro opened Aborn Pet Hospital with a simple observation: too many pets were struggling with behavioral issues that traditional veterinary care wasn't equipped to address. A dog might be physically healthy but terrified of strangers. A cat could pass every wellness check but destroy furniture out of anxiety. Angel knew these animals needed more than medication or basic advice. They needed specialized behavioral support integrated into their regular care.
That insight became the foundation of Aborn Pet Hospital. From day one, the practice included a certified veterinary behaviorist on staff, something almost unheard of in Santa Clara at the time. As word spread through the community, the practice grew from handling basic wellness visits to becoming a full-service hospital offering surgery, dental care, emergency services, and grooming. What hasn't changed is the original mission: treating the whole animal, not just their symptoms.
Santa Clara pet owners have different needs than they did six years ago. They work longer hours. They adopt rescue animals with unknown histories. They need a vet who answers questions at 7 PM and understands why their dog lunges at skateboards. Angel built Aborn Pet Hospital to meet families where they are, which is why you'll find the team here on evenings and weekends, why behavioral consultations are built into wellness visits, and why the front desk knows your pet's name before you walk through the door.
Our Values
Behavioral health is physical health. Every pet that comes through our doors gets evaluated for both medical and behavioral wellness. We don't separate the two because they're connected. An anxious cat won't groom properly. A fearful dog won't exercise enough. Our behaviorist works alongside our veterinarians on treatment plans, not as an afterthought.
Real emergency availability. We hold appointment slots open every day for urgent cases. If your pet needs immediate care, we get you in that day. Our team stays late when an emergency comes in at 5:45 PM because that's when emergencies happen.
Straight answers about costs. Before any procedure, you receive a written estimate with line items. No surprise bills. If something changes during treatment, we call you before moving forward. You shouldn't have to guess what veterinary care will cost.
Continuity of care. When possible, you see the same veterinarian at each visit. They know your pet's history, personality, and quirks. We keep detailed notes so anyone on the team can step in during emergencies, but we build relationships over time, not transaction by transaction.
Credentials
Aborn Pet Hospital is fully licensed and insured to practice veterinary medicine in California. Over six years serving Santa Clara, we've treated thousands of pets and maintained a 4.6 out of 5 rating from 56 client reviews.
Our facility meets all state veterinary standards for surgical suites, diagnostic equipment, and medication storage. Angel Castro holds an active California veterinary license, and our certified veterinary behaviorist maintains credentials through the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists.
Meet the Team
Angel Castro opened this practice because too many vets were treating symptoms instead of animals. After years working in larger clinics, Angel wanted to build something different: a place where a dog's anxiety mattered as much as their vaccination schedule, and where pet owners could actually reach their vet when questions came up.
The team has grown carefully over six years. Our certified veterinary behaviorist handles everything from separation anxiety to aggression issues. Our veterinary technicians average over eight years of experience each. The front desk staff can tell you which patients need extra time in the waiting room (looking at you, Murphy the territorial terrier) and which ones do better coming in through the side entrance.
Everyone here owns pets. Everyone here has dealt with 2 AM emergencies and difficult diagnoses. We built Aborn Pet Hospital the way we'd want our own animals treated.
